The toy was registered as a patent in 1981 and produced by Hasbro, a US toy company and is one of the largest toy makers in the world. But the toys turned out to be less successful on the market, so Hasbro then introduced six versions of smaller and colorful toys in 1982. They sold them under the name My Little Pony.

My Little Pony, which was launched in 1982, became popular during the 1980s and 1990s, both in the United States and globally. During that period animated films and animated television series were also produced. This toy was developed. But not long after that, the production of these toys was stopped due to increased competition. For the record, there are around 150 million pony toys that were sold during the 1980s.

My Little Pony was then revived and became more popular since 2003 with the addition of several characters. About 100 million pony toys were successfully sold globally in 2010. Hasbro also made the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
