United States Independence Day falls on July 4. Typically, the moment is celebrated with fireworks, barbecues, and parades. Twelve of the thirteen countries approved the resolution for US independence on July 2, not July 4, where the declaration was actually adopted. New York does not vote until July 9. And many signatories do not attach their names to documents until August 2.

July four is not an official US holiday until more than a century after the country declared its independence. Although the celebration of independence began the following year, July 4 has not been designated a federal holiday until 1870. And in 1941, July 4 became a paid holiday for federal employees.
