As evidence of her appearance, Mary printed her image on time (a kind of coat made from cactus fiber) belonging to Juan Diego. The Tilma is a low-quality garment that should not last up to 20 years but miraculously it does not show signs of damage after more than 460 years later.

Studies with modern digital equipment even reveal that in the image of the eye on the fabric reflected the shadow of the person who looked at the Virgin Mary. The sighting story is explained in “Nican Mopohua” a document written in Nahuatl (Aztec language) by an educated indian named Antonio Valeriano around the middle of the 16th century. However, the original work was never found and a copy of the document was published by Luis Lasso de la Vega in 1649.
